It’s just the same flipped and slightly tilted footage
Line of Events
The city of New Rome faces the duel between Cesar Catilina, a brilliant artist in favor of a utopian future, and the greedy mayor Franklyn Cicero. Between them is Julia Cicero, with her loyalties divided between her father and her lover.. Francis Ford Coppola wrote the screenplay in the early 1980s, but the film was held back partly because of his financial debts. Pre-production finally began in 2001, after shooting 30 hours of second-drive footage and holding a table read with Paul Newman, Uma Thurman, Robert De Niro, James Gandolfini, Nicolas Cage, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Edie Falco and Kevin Spacey. but the project was abandoned after the 9/11 attacks, because a scene in the script (page 166) “predicted”; the attacks. Coppola abandoned the project entirely in 2007 and did not begin development again until 2019. The security video of Cicero entering Ceasars office is supposed to be two different cameras as indicated by the small text in the left corner above.
And, well, I
Cesar Catilina: *Want* to help me Julia Cicero: Yes? well, I want to learn.Caesar Catiline: And you think a year of… medical school entitles you to show through the riches of my Emersonian mind?Julia Cicero: Does that entitle me?Caesar Catiline : Yes.Julia Cicero: [mocks me]Caesar Catiline: Yes!Julia Cicero: Justifies me?Caesar Catiline: YEEEEEES!Julia Cicero: You have no idea about me! You think I’m nothing, just a socialist Cesar Catilina: No, nothing, but I reserve my time for those who can think. About science. And literature, and… architecture and art.
Julia Cicero: Good!
Do you find me cruel, selfish and insensitive? I am I work without caring what happens to any of us. So go back to cluuuub, endure it all and follow the kind of people you like. I will Cesar Catilina: Come back when you have more time!. The “Ultimate IMAX Experience” version of the film features a live actor asking questions during the filmed press conference. It eats away at the serious credibility of the story
Obscure feelings. Megalopolis is an epic and silly mix of different movies (Babylon, Casanova, Moulin Rouge, Cabaret, Batman, Hudsucker Proxy and the Hollywoodland miniseries, etc.). Coppola recycles a lot of styles from famous directors like Luhrmann, Chazelle, Burton, Aronofsky, Fellini and Visconti. His own voice is somewhere in there in the fleeting details, which is unfortunately reminiscent of his weaker films like “One from The Heart”, the film could have been set in a more realistic location. Then the fantasy of Megalopolis would have been more effective giving a wow feeling. And what’s the point of the stupid and gratuitous theatrics or should I just say theatrics? Personally, I hate this kind of Baz Luhrmann puke in my mouth kind of approach.
The ending was also good
Based on this point, there are a lot of gratuitous moments for no reason: the dropping of hats, weird dancing during the first scene, and the atmosphere in general. They were thoughtful and beautiful ideas. The story is pretty good with its ties to ancient Rome etc. And without the constant interference, the film could have had a chance to be a decent fairy tale for adults. Unfortunately, the messy, rambunctious silliness of the theater eats up too much.
